StoneFix S1 Highly Flexible White Slow Set Flexible Adhesive is a professional wall and floor tile adhesive. Designed for fully vitrified, high density tiles such as porcelain, ceramics and mosaics. Also suitable for natural stone such as travertine and slate, Eco friendly natural stone tile adhesive.
DO NOT apply if frost is forecast within 24 hours, in wet conditions, in temperatures below 5°C or above 25°C, to areas in direct sunlight or to substrates that are hot. Never add water or fresh adhesive and or powder to the adhesive mix which has already started to set.
Surfaces, including existing tiles, must be clean sound and strong enough to support the weight of the tiles and the adhesive. Curing compounds, oil stains, wax residues, laitance and other contaminants must be removed. StoneFix White Slow Set Flexible S1 Adhesive can absorb minor surface irregularities provided that the bed thickness does not exceed 20mm. Gypsum based substrates, aerated concrete and interior asphalt should be primed with StoneFix Acrylic Primer.
Porous substrates must be primed with StoneFix Acrylic Primer. Non porous substrates such as ceramics, should be primed using a slurry coat of StoneFix White Slow Set Flexible S1 Adhesive and Stonefix Acrylic Primer. The slurry coat should be one part powder to one part liquid by volume. Apply thinly with a brush and allow to dry.
Apply slurry coat: 1 part adhesive to 1 part StoneFix Acrylic Primer, apply a thin coat with a brush and allow to dry.
The surface should be roughened up using a wire brush or other abrasive tool as this will remove the surface laitance. Then apply 2 neat coats of StoneFix Acrylic Primer.
The substrate must not leach moisture. Anhydrite screeds must not have a moisture content greater than 0.5% or 75% relative humidity (RH) is required. This can easily be tested with a hygrometer. Once the screed has dried it is essential that surface laitance is removed. This is achieved by scabbling, followed by vacuum cleaning to remove any dust, then followed by 2-4 neat coats of StoneFix Acrylic Primer.
Skimming is not required, ensure boards are dry, securely fixed and rigid. Prime with 2 coats of StoneFix Acrylic Primer diluted 1:1 with clean water.
The surface should be prepared to provide a rigid and secure base without deflection. The face, reverse and edges of the boards must be primed with StoneFix Acrylic Primer diluted 1:1 with clean water, to prevent the ingress of ambient moisture.
Mix 20kg of StoneFix White Slow Set Flexible S1 Adhesive with approximately 5 litres of cold clean water until a smooth creamy consistency is achieved using a suitable drill with whisk attachment, mix for 2 minutes, allow standing for 2 minutes then re-mix. This process allows the polymer additives to dissolve and activate.
The mixed adhesive is applied to the prepared surface with a trowel and then combed through with a suitably sized notched trowel in straight ribs to create a ribbed adhesive bed. The tiles should be pressed into place with a twisting and sliding action to achieve full adhesive to tile transfer. For tiling to walls in dry internal locations the adhesive contact should be at least 65% of the back of the tile. When tiling to floors and all external situations, or in wet areas such as showers and swimming pools, solid bed fixing should be achieved. To achieve a solid bed usually requires the tiles to be buttered immediately prior to placing into the ribbed bed so no voids are left beneath the tiles. The size of the notched trowel chosen depends on the size of the tile, the surface being tiled, the profile on the back of the tile and the degree of coverage area required. Remove and inspect a tile occasionally to check that adequate bedding is being achieved. Expansion joints must be provided according to the relevant Part of BS 5385. Test open time by touching the adhesive bed with a finger; if adhesive transfers to the finger a safe bond is assured if not, the adhesive must be removed and replaced with fresh material. Never add water or powder to a mix that has begun to set. Do not apply at substrate temperatures below 5°C or in conditions of extreme heat. Exterior installations must be protected from direct sunlight, wind or rain.
The surface should be prepared to provide a rigid and secure base without deflection and suitable to support the intended weight. Tongue and groove / chipboard must be over-boarded with exterior grade plywood which is at least 18mm thick and given time to find equilibrium with its surroundings. Plywood boards must be 18mm thick and all joints must be supported. All must be screwed down at 300mm centres. The face, reverse and edges of the boards must be primed with StoneFix Acrylic Primer diluted 1:1 with clean water, to prevent the ingress of ambient moisture.
1kg of the mixed material applied will cover approximately:
Coverage is dependent on the application technique, substrate and the type of tiles used and these figures are therefore only a guide.
